Gol?

I was taking a random video at the FIFA Fan Fest during Thursday's match between Italy and Slovakia when this happened...

Unfortunately, the thousands of cheering fans in this video were disheartened when the referee said that Italy was offsides and that the goal would not count. I saw several grown men crying that afternoon. Sad day in Italy... and a sad weekend for the seasonal soccer fan in me! Italy, South Korea and USA lost. Looking forward to Spain v. Portugal during dinner tonight though!

There have been several controversial calls during this World Cup, thus prompting FIFA's President Sepp Blatter to apologize, stating that better technology will be taken into consideration in the future. For more information, read these articles by NY Times and ESPN.

La Costiera Amalfitana

A few of us went to the Amalfi Coast about a week and a half ago. We took a train into Naples and another into Sorrento. On Saturday, we took a ferry to Capri, a small island off the coast, where we rented a small boat for the day.

Great weather, great food (lots of seafood), great company.

And congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers (played horribly, but the a win's a win?)!

Firenze

Spent two nights in Florence and loved it. I wanted to study abroad there last spring but plans changed, so I was excited to finally be there.
We spent most of our time in the Uffizi and Accademia (the homes of Michelangelo's David, Botticelli's Birth of Venus, etc.. the list could go on forever) so I don't have many photos but oh well. Both museums were amazing, as one would expect (better be, with a hefty price of €38 including our reservations! just kidding.. kind of); I just wish I remembered everything I learned in Art History because I got to see most of the paintings and sculptures we discussed. It was overwhelming! Florence is a beautiful city, small enough to walk around (we didn't take public transportation once! unheard of in Rome...), and lively.

Venezia

Pleasant and romantic, but a bit too touristy for me. Glad I went, but didn't feel the need to stay longer. While my friends spent the afternoon buying souvenirs (after our €70 gondola ride), I just snapped a bunch of random photos of strangers. I am obsessed with how well the people here, both tourists or locals (old men in particular), dress! We got in on Thursday around 9PM and left the following evening for Florence.
